Join us for a special event celebrating the 150th Anniversary of Icelandic Settlement in Manitoba. Hosted by the Icelandic Canadian Frón and Lögberg-Heimskringla, this guided heritage tour will take you on an engaging journey through Winnipeg’s historic West End and other significant Icelandic heritage sites throughout the city.
Your ticket includes:
· Guided coach tour with Stefan Jonasson, editor of the Lögberg-Heimskringla an expert in Icelandic-Canadian history. Tour includes areas around the West End of Winnipeg, Point Douglas, Upper Gates of Fort Garry and the University of Manitoba.
· Lunch at the Scandinavian Cultural Centre.
· A stunning photo exhibit by Signy Thorsteinsson, showcasing heritage buildings connected to Icelandic Winnipeg.
· A visit to the Icelandic Special Collections at the University of Manitoba’s Elizabeth Dafoe Library.
· Kaffitími (coffee time) while exploring rare archives and artifacts documenting Icelandic life in Manitoba
Bus departs at 10:00 am from the Scandinavian Centre. Lunch at the Scandinavian Centre at 12:00 pm. Bus departs from the SCC for the remainder of the tour at 1:00 pm to the Icelandic Library at the U of M. Return time to the SCC approximately 3-3:30 pm.
